Back again Gay TV at its best

Well I am so sorry that you have had to wait such a long time but we have been so busy and I have not had time to do my blog, anyway I am going to publish a recent interview I did and I will get back to this on a near daily basis.

Here it is

1) Who thought of the idea for a gay TV network

Having been in the Gay world since the first opening of Village Soho, which was the first open window bar. i.e. we could see out and people could see in, I did many things from then in the early 90’s and one was to work with a new channel on Sky called TV Travel Shop. This opened up a new era in TV and travel where you could see the resort and the hotel you were going to on the TV and not just in a brochure. I was fundamental setting this up so knew about TV and starting a new TV channel. Jim Deans the owner of Global Digital Broadcast met with me in Sandringham, we hit it off, and he proposed that I was the right person for the job being in the “Gay World” knowing many people and my background in TV. Therefore, he was looking for a Business partner in this area and we became Partners.

2) Who owns TV POLARI?

When Jim Deans offered me the partnership I knew it was a mighty job and I could not do it alone, it took 70 people to start TV Travel shop then 450 call centre staff so I needed another person that knew me and what I could do. Adrian Doughty was a new introduction to me and we met through starting a charity up so I knew the person was sound, straight but sound. Therefore, I asked him if he wanted to “learn a new trade” lol and go into partnership with me. He agreed and today GDB owns 50% of TVPolari and I together with Adrian own the other 50%. This means that we have support from the Mother Company and we move quicker and better than other channels in the network. Other people came along Like James Duffy our Business Director and Justin Beavis to name only a few.

3) Why the name TV Polari

I did not want Gay TV or anything that had Gay in it as we have enough of that in our life’s. So having lived in Italy and being a supporter of LGBT history month we came up with Polari, which in Italian/Latin means to converse and it was the Gay talk from old days when Gay men were oppressed. So I thought we would bring it back and make it something we all understood and young gay people would learn.

4) How can you watch TV Polari?

You can watch TVPolari either via your set top box on Something TV or as we step into a new age, on your pc on www.tvpolari.com we also go out on a few other networks and soon will be going onto a large cable audience.

5) When did TV Polari launch?

2007

6) How is running TV Polari different to what you expected?

Well I knew it was going to be a challenge but I enjoy that. I never thought I would be into the Gay world of business again as I have been there, done that, and wanted to do something else. But it is the Law of attraction and so I came back.

7) What has been your best moment?

The Best moment so far as each week has its good moments must have been when we had content and then when we had our first paying advertiser. That was such a great moment as its like running a restaurant and having no food.

8) what has been your worst moment? (please don't say mothership tv!)

(Not Mothership Tv lol, as we will come back to that as its such a good idea but if you’re not ready then it’s not to be.)The worst moment was in the early days when we went to our first customer with our set top box and our TV to do a demonstration and GDB who run the Distribution network had decided to do maintenance and not tell us. So we were at the clients and had nothing to show, so we had to show them another Channel instead. But hey, these things happen. We are on the brink of a new way we watch TV and content so you have to accept it.

9) what's your favorite part of running a gay TV network

Erm, it’s when I see people get as excited as I do and see the bigger picture. When we get new clients on board and now we have the production company, it’s going on location and trying something new.

10) What do you find most difficult and why?

Technology and explaining it to people as it’s new and hard to understand so to tell them they can watch TV Polari on their TV via the internet is difficult.

11) What are your dreams for TV POLARI?

I would like TV Polari to be like the BBC of the World but for Gay consumers, so I do not wish to Run it and have a say or the final word, as there are many different types of gender out there and people like different things. So we need to get other ideas on board to open it up as a Peoples channel to offer different content for everyone.

12) What have you got coming up?

Ah well we have just launched the movie channel and that is going great, and in the next few weeks we will have a new Civil partnership channel called Together TV, which will be much better than Wedding TV as we have lots more to offer and not just Gay weddings on that channel. We also have a lot of new shows on the way from Screamers starring Ray Jordan and Destinations a new gay Travel show and of course the New Gay Travel Channel Planitgay TV, bit like sky travel but for LGBT bods.

A week in Politics goes fast, you should be in TV dear

B4 you know it, time goes by and we are doing something different everyday and bang, you forgot to write your blog.

Well after a manic weekend my business partner & I attended the Philadelphia press launch of Cezanne & Beyond at the National Gallery. This is something that will be at the Philadelphia Museum that begins in February. It was amazing, I never knew the difference from Modern art to historic art and I tell you what I sure do now. Anyway the reason we were there was the wonderful Kristel Valaydon from www.visitpa.com is arranging for TVPolari to go and film a show of wish you were Queer with the wonderful Gabbi and crew. So watch out for that one.

Then it was onto film Mike Arlen who must be the most wonderful and funny man on earth. he told us tales that would not be told at a dinner party about Elton John when he was younger, Rod Stewart in the old days throwing plates around, The Beetles and lots more. You will have to wait for that show to come out in the new year for all the gossip and what gossip it will be.

Wednesday was a full event, we started in Brighton for production meetings with the wonderful Jamie Flawn and his crew. Then right back up to London for a business meeting with 90 gay professional people at a secret event called Iliad (well trust me to let the cat out of the bag) Not so secret now is it. well its not the gay mafia so we are ok on that front.

What a work filled weekend it was, I started writing scripts for the new show Wish you were queer, a gay television show based around the original but much better and for LGBT bods and suchlike.

Monday I hurt my back and had to cancel an important meeting with Gino from the Gay Business Association that in my mind is very important and Gino has done a great job in turning it around and making it what it is today. Gino also has a company called Pink Weddings and runs the Gay wedding show that TVPolari will be at in November filming and reporting great stuff.

This week I am off to the Iris gay film festival in Cardiff so I will give you a full report on Russel T Davis and H from Steps and what they get up to. TTFN x

Death for gays

Did you know that in 7 countries around the world, 7 countries give you the death penalty for being Gay and 76 countries put you in prison. This world has got a long way to go in my view. That's why I was happy to be invited to the International conference on LGBT human rights next year in Copenhagen. this runs from the 27th to the 29th July.

More importantly I wanted to let you know that we had Andorra confirm that they would love to be part of the new show "Wish you were Queer" that TVPolari are working on right now with their production company Blue Ruby Productions.

I met a great guy yesterday as well called Gino Meriano from Pink Weddings who just happens to be the chair at the uk's Gay Business Association. What a great guy and look out for his Gay wedding shows coming to a city near you soon.

Its a day with the family today and I have already done 45 Min's on the Wii today and so far in 2 weeks have lost 8 ponds, not in currency but weight. So a pat on the back to me.

Look out for my other directors Blog James Duffy who will be sharing what his life is like with TVPolari and he reminds me all the time we are the first ever International Gay Network. Me I would rather be on holiday. Ciao for now

New Channels going Live

Well Guys and girls and any Transgender people out there, what a manic few weeks I have had at TVPolari.

We have now started the first ever Gay Travel channel and its called The Polari Travel Channel and our two new directors Mike Brady and his partner Graham Andrews. We will be filming all around the world and making travel shows just for the LGBT community. So check it out and please remember to give us feedback so we give you your TV your way. Watch out for the new Wish you were Queer programme in the new year.

We took our wonderful Gabbi to the Plasa08 show in Earls court and she created a massive stir there and we all had such a great time. Her eyes did wonder and sometimes she was not on the ball so to speak as there were so many wannabe DJ's walking around.

Our Monthly news roundup show will be on air shortly and this will give you updates on a monthly basis of whats gone on in our world and any other great things that are going to be happening over the coming months. Watch out the gay newsboys are about.

Then it was on to the IGLCC for a great session with business owners and important people in the gay world who all want to make a difference.

A massive shout out to Sue Sanders from the LGBT history month who was on fine form and we are very proud to be the media sponsor for the LGBT History Month 2009.

A new and very exciting channel went online in the network this month and it was Gabbiworld which will show you everything from the gay scene you ever wanted, so watch out for Gabbi and her crew at a bar or club near you soon.

That's all for now and I will give you a celeb update in my next blog.

TVPolari days

What a manic couple of days it has been. The new camera turned up for TVPolari Travel channel, the only thing it does not do by the looks of it is fly. Well thank god I have my little camera man that does all of that stuff. Had a meeting with Gabbi from gabbiworld who are having a channel on the TVPolari network, he or does one say “She” when talking about a drag queen? I will have to ask gabbi when I next see Him/her J the channel goes live next week so watch out for that one, Gabbi is very funny and a natural in front of the screen.

Next, we are preparing for the new tour with mother-ship.com. They have a fantastic website and they are organizing amateur strip nights around the country and TVPolari will now be the media partner for them. So watch this space.

This is how bizarre my life can be some days; I get a phone call from the local Nightclub/bar asking for anything signed from the rich and famous. That ruled me out straightaway but working on both at the moment. So a few phone calls later we have Chico from the Xfactor’s pants, Freemasons signed Cd and wait for it some jeans from the cast of footballer’s wife’s. Oh, wow to know people. A full day tomorrow, so see you soon.

Life & Times of TVPolari

My Weekend so far... Having got back from filming in Cyprus in the Med this week I had 300 emails to go through so Saturday was fun to say the least. The more I email out the more comes back (Very strange). I spent 1.5 hours talking to my Finance Director on Skype about the new Camera we have got and what new shows we are doing. Then it was off to some launch of a new business that makes clothes. Fashion not really my thing but its free drink and I get to put it about a bit.

Sunday was very quite as the drink was plenty the night b4 and I tend to take Sundays off unless there is work or a shoot going down.

My week ahead at TVPolari will be very exciting so keep up to date.
